Hypothesis-generating for smooth muscle crossbridge kinetics; leaves open translation to mammalian cardiovascular physiology.
In toad stomach smooth muscle cells, lowering temperature slows the fast tension recovery phase, while lowering extracellular calcium has little effect on tension transients, suggesting crossbridges cycle slower and have a longer duty cycle in smooth muscle.
