By dehydration and subsequent saponification of the reaction product obtained from β‐ionone and γ‐bromocrotonic ester we prepared β‐ionylidene crotonic acid III, which substance was transformed into the “C 18 ketone” IV by means of lithium methyl. From this ketone we prepared “vitamin A acid” VII, by means of a Reformatski reaction with methylbromoacetate. This substance proved to have a strong vitamin A activity.
