Objective To investigate the efficacy of Spring roll anniotic membrane plug for treating peripheral corneal perforations. Methods Seven patients with peripheral comeal perforation of about 2mm diameter were included in this study.Four of them had recurrent herpetic keratitis.Three of them presented with corneal peripheral perforation after removal of an iron corneal foreign body.Spring roll amniotic membrane plug was performed to repair the peripheral comeal perforation. Results The patients were followed-up for 14.7±9.9 months (range,3 to 33 months).Their best corrected visual acuity was remarkably improved (t =4.17,P =0.006) and a stable corneal leukoma was formed. Conclusions Spring roll amniotic membrane plug is a good alternative to comeal transplantation for the treatment of peripheral corneal perforations, especially in cases in which perforation is non-central and corneal graft rejection will be at a high risk.
