NO modulates afferent arteriolar responses in SHR; leaves open its role in renal microvascular adaptation to human hypertension.
Nitric oxide modulates but does not impair myogenic afferent arteriolar contractility, and its enhanced effect in SHR kidneys may account for adaptive mechanisms of renal microvessels to hypertension.
Hayashi et al. (1995) studied this question.
