Why the study?
The study aimed to compare various procedural sedation and analgesia protocols based on the bispectral index system and other critical items in adults with anterior shoulder dislocation in the emergency department.
Do different procedural sedation protocols (propofol/fentanyl, propofol/ketamine, ketamine) differ in level of consciousness based on BIS in adults with anterior shoulder dislocation?

Background & Objective: Procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) includes the administration of sedative/dissociative medications with or without the concomitant delivery of analgesic agents. The bispectral index system (BIS) is a modern technology for neurophysiological monitoring that continuously analyzes the patient's electroencephalogram curve during sedation to assess the level of consciousness. This study aimed to compare various PSA protocols, including propofol/fentanyl, propofol/ketamine, and ketamine, based on the BIS and other critical items in adults with anterior shoulder dislocation (ASD) in the emergency department.

Massaeli et al. (2022) conducted an RCT in Anterior shoulder dislocation (ASD). Propofol/fentanyl, propofol/ketamine, and ketamine vs. Active comparators (three-group trial) was evaluated on Level of consciousness assessed by bispectral index system (BIS) and other critical items.
