Why the study?

To assess skeletal muscle and myocardium responses and morphometric changes in skeletal muscle fibers after an original aerobic exercise program in patients with HFrEF.

Does a 6-month aerobic exercise program improve LVEF, exercise capacity, and skeletal muscle characteristics in patients with class III HFrEF and normal body weight?

Population

100 patients with class III HFrEF

Comparison

Original aerobic exercise program before vs after 6 months

Follow-up

6 months

Overview

Should not yet change class III HFrEF rehab protocols; leaves open whether lactate-threshold AE uniquely remodeled myocardium and muscle fibers.

Structured PICO

Does a 6-month aerobic exercise program improve LVEF, exercise capacity, and skeletal muscle characteristics in patients with class III HFrEF and normal body weight?

P
Population
100 patients with class III heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and normal body weight, mean age 52±5.2 years, mean BMI 23.5±2.8 kg/m2.
I
Intervention
Dosed aerobic exercise program based on reaching the lactate threshold for 6 months.
O
Outcome
Response of skeletal muscle and myocardium (LVEF, VO2peak, exercise tolerance, QOL, LDH and ALP activity, morphometric changes in skeletal muscle fiber) at 6 months.surrogate

A 6-month aerobic exercise program in patients with severe HFrEF and normal body weight significantly improves LVEF, exercise tolerance, and quality of life, accompanied by favorable enzymatic changes in skeletal muscle.
