Comprehensive review reveals the integrative role of tissue-wide bioelectric systems across physiological environments, highlighting therapeutic strategies for electrical dysregulation.
A bioelectric meta-regulator is an integrative system that combines distributed electric fields, transmembrane potentials, ionic currents, and electrotaxis in all tissues of the body. It is based on voltage-dependent and ligand-controlled ion channels, pumps (Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase, H⁺-ATPase), transporters, as well as epithelial and synaptic currents. The components of the regulator, the mechanisms of generation and propagation of electrical signals, quantitative parameters (transmembrane potential, currents, tissue resistances, frequency of spontaneous oscillations) are described. The effect on twenty meta-environments of the body has been shown. Pathological conditions in imbalance (arrhythmias, epilepsy, cancerous bioelectric fields, regeneration disorders, fibrillation) and methods of correction by natural means (ion balance, magnesium, potassium, diet, electrical stimulation, modulation of channels with plant extracts) are considered.
