Why the study?
The effect of conventional cardiac risk factors for coronary heart disease on the severity of subclinical hypothyroidism remained uncertain.
What cardiac risk factors are associated with varying degrees of subclinical hypothyroidism in patients with coronary heart disease?
What cardiac risk factors are associated with varying degrees of subclinical hypothyroidism in patients with coronary heart disease?
In patients with coronary heart disease, female gender and anti-TPO positivity are independent risk factors for mild and severe subclinical hypothyroidism, respectively.
May guide selective SCH evaluation in female CHD patients with anti-TPO positivity; leaves open effects on cardiac outcomes.
Purpose: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is defined as a condition which shows an elevated serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in the presence of normal free triiodothyronine (FT3) and tetraiodothyronine (FT4) levels. The effect of conventional factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) on the severity of SCH remains uncertain. Our aim was to evaluate the cardiac risk factors on various degrees of SCH in a cohort of CHD patients.
