Application of a testing magnet to a VVI pacemaker can induce atrial fibrillation via retrograde conduction.
Magnet application to VVI pacemakers may induce AF; this single case leaves open prevalence and clinical relevance.
The first known case of testing magnet-induced atrial fibrillation in a patient with a VVI pacemaker is reported. A macrore-entry mechanism is postulated, involving retrograde conduction from the ventricle through the AV node to the atrium following an asynchronous pacemaker stimulus.
