Why the study?
Does internal cardiac pacing improve survival and control ventricular tachyarrhythmias in patients with complete heart block or acute myocardial infarction complicated by advanced A-V block?
Does internal cardiac pacing improve survival and control ventricular tachyarrhythmias in patients with complete heart block or acute myocardial infarction complicated by advanced A-V block?
Internal cardiac pacing is a lifesaving intervention for patients with complete heart block and advanced A-V block complicating acute myocardial infarction.

In such situations the heart rate is too slow to maintain an adequate cardiac output, and the use of electrical stimulation of the ventricle is lifesaving. Furthermore, temporary electrical pacing of the ventricle has markedly reduced the mortality in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction complicated by advanced atrioventricular (A-V) block. In 1964 Sowton, Leatham, and Carson (1) used artificial pacing to treat two patients having normal A-V conduction who developed rapid...References1.
