Does angiotensin immunization prevent the sympathetic stimulating effect of angiotensin in rabbits?
Angiotensin immunization abolishes the sympathetic stimulating effect of angiotensin in rabbits, suggesting renovascular hypertension in these models is not due to sympathetic stimulation by pressor doses of angiotensin.
Angiotensin immunization blocks sympathetic effects in rabbit models; leaves open any relevance to human renovascular hypertension mechanisms or therapy.
The effect of angiotensin (AN) on the activity in a sympathetic nerve (left renal) was examined in 13 normal rabbits and 6 rabbits immunized with AN. AN evoked a non-rhythmical sympathetic activity in the normal rabbits, but in the immune rabbits changed neither blood pressure nor sympathetic activity. We conclude that the renovascular arterial hypertension produced in AN-immune rabbits (4, 5) was not due to a sympathetic stimulating effect of pressor doses of AN.
