An amplifier has been developed primarily for use with photoconductive cells as detectors of infra-red radiation. The frequency chosen, 800 c/s, is about optimum for most cells of the lead sulphide type when used with chopped radiation. The bandwidth is 50 c/s and overall gain 2 × 10 7 . Negative feedback reduces gain variations to less than ± 1/3% for a ± 10% variation in power supplies. Noise level is equivalent to an input noise resistance of 50 kΩ. The amplifier is L.C. tuned.
