Current diffusion was studied in near-circular discharges in Doublet III when the plasma current was programmed to rise linearly from an initial steady level to a second, higher, steady level. Classical current diffusion was observed for İ p up to 7 MA·s −1 ; discharges with İ p >2 MA·s −1 , however, disrupted at the transition from the current ramp to the second steady level.
