Upon heating 7‐methylcycloheptatriene the 3‐, 1‐ and 2‐isomers are successively formed by 1‐5 shifts of hydrogen. The rate constants at 140° have been determined. Photochemical 1‐7 shifts of hydrogen are also reported: the 1‐isomer yields preferentially the 7‐isomer and little of the 2‐isomer, whilst the 2‐isomer yields mainly the 3‐isomer and little of the alternative 1‐isomer.
