Does systemic chemotherapy combined with local irradiation prevent metastases in patients with Ewing's sarcoma?
Does systemic chemotherapy combined with local irradiation prevent metastases in patients with Ewing's sarcoma?
Systemic chemotherapy combined with local irradiation may prevent early metastases in Ewing's sarcoma, though longer follow-up is needed.
May indicate benefit of combined therapy against early metastases in Ewing's sarcoma; leaves open need for longer follow-up and controlled trials.
The authors describe their experience with 17 cases of Ewing's sarcoma treated by systemic chemotherapy combined with local irradiation of the primary tumor. In only 1 of 14 patients at risk for at least six months have metastases developed during that interval. Additional observation will be required to establish the value of this approach.
