Postoperative myocardial injury from supply-demand mismatch remains a concern; leaves open optimal prevention strategies in noncardiac surgery.
(Abstracted from Anesthesiology, 124:35–44, 2016) Myocardial infarction remains a leading cause of postoperative complications and carries the threat of an increased risk of mortality for those patients who experience it. It is believed that a source of postoperative myocardial injury may be the oxygen supply-and-demand imbalance that can be caused by ischemia.
