Overview

May aid post-ACS risk stratification; leaves open whether CAVI-guided therapy improves outcomes.

Structured PICO

Does a high cardio-ankle vascular stiffness index (CAVI > 8.325) predict cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome?

P
Population
288 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who underwent CAVI measurement soon after the onset of ACS. Exclusions: unable to detect significant stenosis by coronary angiography, severe aortic insufficiency, peripheral artery disease, atrial fibrillation.
I
Intervention
High cardio-ankle vascular stiffness index (CAVI > 8.325)
C
Comparator
Low cardio-ankle vascular stiffness index (CAVI ≤ 8.325)
O
Outcome
Incidence of cardiovascular events (composite of cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or nonfatal ischemic stroke)composite

High cardio-ankle vascular stiffness index (CAVI >8.325) is a strong independent predictor of future cardiovascular events and ischemic stroke in patients following acute coronary syndrome.
