Skinned fiber assays may underestimate stiffness without lattice correction; extends myofilament mechanics models but leaves intact cardiac translation open.
The low stiffness and non-linearity of the force-extension curve in fully activated skinned muscle fibres are primarily due to the increase of filament separation that occurs when a fibre is skinned.
