Design study demonstrates a dual-layer metasurface antenna array achieving triple-band operation, suggesting compact integration for sub-6 GHz 5G and 6G systems.
A dual-polarized, multi-band antenna array based on double layers of metasurface is introduced. The proposed antenna consists of a novel 1 by 2 array structure layer and two layers of an 8 × 9 arrays of metasurfaces (MS), providing coverage of frequency bands from 4.54 to 5.94 GHz, from 6.98 to 8.25 GHz and from 9.15 to 13.4 GHz. The dimensions of the proposed structure are 26.5 × 30 × 5.05 mm, which is equivalent to 0.41 λ × 0.47 λ × 0.079 λ Here, a patch is a 1 by 2 array structure in which a single element is a circuitous rectangular-shaped ring along with a rectangular-shaped structure loaded with two symmetrical rectangular slots. The metasurface is used above the patch to enhance the performance of the antenna, such as bandwidth, gain, and efficiency; results in a proposed structure, i.e. a 1 by 2 array antenna structure with two layers of MS.
