Reassuring 1-year outcomes after neonatal coxsackie B5 meningitis warrant no practice change; leaves open validation in larger prospective cohorts.
A follow-up study of 17 infants with a history of coxsackie B 5 meningitis during the neonatal period is presented. Neurological development was normal in all the infants and their general health was the same as in an average population except in one case of suspected intrauterine myocarditis. Minor ocular abnormalities were frequent hut probably not connected with the present illness. High titres of neutralizing antibodies were still observed at the age of 1 year.
