NH2(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3 has been exchanged into layered niobate KNb3O8to form an intercalate with an interlayerdistance of 26.8 Å, calcination of this intercalate in O2 at 600 °C gives rise to the first porous silica-pillared layered niobate with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 165 m2g–1.
