Population

7 patients (5 males, mean age 54 +/- 7 years) with post-cardiotomy right ventricular failure (after heart transplantation [n=4], repeat mitral valve replacement [n=2], or left ventricular assist device implantation [n=1]).

Intervention

Impella Recover RD axial flow pump for temporary right ventricular support (mean duration 4.9 +/- 4.5 days).

Outcome

Effective support (pump flows and central venous pressure unloading), weaning success, and device reliability.

The Impella Recover RD provides effective temporary right ventricular support and unloading in post-cardiotomy right ventricular failure, though mechanical reliability requires improvement.

Limitations
