The purpose of this investigation was to document the communicative behavior of long-term health care employees and to relate this behavior to the well-being of elderly residents. Eighty-four nursing aides and sixty-one nurses from four nursing homes in two states completed the Nursing Home Employee Communication Survey (NHECS). The results indicated communicative differences due to job title as well as the nursing home environment. Implications for the communication specialist who may work within such facilities were discussed.
