The double-pendulum apparatus designed by Searle for measuring Young's modulus for wires, may, under certain circumstances, yield inaccurate results; this is particularly true when the apparatus is used in miniiature form for measurements on textile fibres. These errors are considered in detail in the present paper, and it is shown that they may be minimized by a suitable choice of the apparatus constants.
