Undoped YAlO3-crystals show a brown coloration, which can be reduced particularly by annealing the crystals after the growth procedure [1]. This coloration is photosensible. The present paper deals with the coloration and thermodiscoloration behaviour of undoped YAlO3-crystals in dependence of the coloration temperature. The crystals are coloured as well under the influence of UV-light as under X-irradiation. The absorption spectrum observed after low temperature coloration is much more intensiv than the room temperature coloration. Additional selective absorptions in the low temperature coloration spectrum are observed. The discoloration curves showed, that the RT-spectrum is only one component of the low temperature coloration spectrum of YAlO3.
