Few reports dealing with the effects of thyroidectomy upon the generaI appearance and growth of the bovine have come to the attention of the authors. Brody and Frankenbach (2) reported that thyroidectomy of a Jersey heifer at 54 days of age reduced mature body weight by over 50 per cent. Practically no weight gain was made after 18 months of age. The characteristic symptoms of hypothyroidism began to appear about a month after thyroidectomy. Andrews and Bullard (1) reported rapid fattening and good gains of steers during the first six weeks following partial thyroideetomy.
