A fixed combination of the highly selective β-blocker bisoprolol and the calcium antagonist amlodipine achieved target blood pressure levels in 82.5% of patients.
Why the study?
Does a fixed combination of bisoprolol and amlodipine improve target blood pressure achievement in patients with hypertension?
Does a fixed combination of bisoprolol and amlodipine improve target blood pressure achievement in patients with hypertension?
Fixed combinations of antihypertensive drugs, such as bisoprolol and amlodipine, can effectively achieve target blood pressure with minimal side effects, increasing treatment compliance.

May support fixed bisoprolol-amlodipine combinations for hypertension control; leaves open confirmation in randomized trials.
Hypertension is a leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. Reaching target blood pressure (BP) in hypertension is the main condition optimization outlook for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. To solve this problem in a substantial portion of patients, who are in need of antihypertensive drugs, wherein 70-80% of the target blood pressure can be achieved using a combination therapy. Fixed combinations of antihypertensive drugs increase treatment compliance and provide better organ protection. The new fixed combination of highly selective β-blocker bisoprolol and the calcium antagonist amlodipine can achieve target BP levels in 82,5% of patients with a minimum frequency of side effects.

Ogarkov et al. (2014) conducted a review in Hypertension. Fixed combination of bisoprolol and amlodipine was evaluated on Target blood pressure levels. A fixed combination of the highly selective β-blocker bisoprolol and the calcium antagonist amlodipine achieved target blood pressure levels in 82.5% of patients.
