This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review to quantify the dose-related effects of adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on blood pressure compared to placebo; no results are available yet.
Why the study?
To quantify the dose-related effects of various adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and adverse-effect withdrawals compared to placebo.
Systematic Review
Protocol for quantifying decongestant effects on BP leaves open dose-related cardiovascular risks pending completion.
Objectives This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective To quantify the dose‐related effects of various adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to placebo. Secondary objectives To quantify the dose‐related effect of adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on heart rate. To quantify the dose‐related effects of adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on withdrawals due to adverse effects.

Chan et al. (2021) reported a systematic review. Adrenergic agonist oral decongestants vs. Placebo was evaluated on Systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review to quantify the dose-related effects of adrenergic agonist oral decongestants on blood pressure compared to placebo; no results are available yet.
