Photovoltaic performance of liquid junction solar cells using electrodeposited thin film n-CdSe is found to be significantly affected by the nature of the annealing ambient. Effects of nitrogen and vacuum (10−4Torr) as the ambients upon the solar cell parameters are reported. Annealing in vacuum results in an increase of minority carrier diffusion lenght and short circuit current with consequent improvement in conversion efficiency. The improvement in cell performance is attributed to the removal of selenium acceptors under the influence of vacuum.
