Desflurane offers potential clinical advantages over other inhalational anesthetics due to its moderate effects on left ventricular function and lower solubility.
May support desflurane in LV-impaired cardiac patients for its profile; leaves open randomized outcome trials.
The cardiovascular properties of desflurane and some other inhalational anaesthetics are outlined and compared, and the way in which they may be effectively used in clinical practice is considered. Desflurane appears to offer some advantages compared with currently available anaesthetics. Its effects on left ventricular function are moderate and the solubility of the agent in blood and tissue is remarkably less than isoflurane, enflurane, or halothane.
