Epstein-Barr virus DNA was detected in both cerebrospinal fluid and serum during the early stage of acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion in a 12-month-old female.
Case Report (n=1)
This is the first report to describe a patient with acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD) associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection.
We report the case of a 12 month-old female diagnosed with acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion. Epstein-Barr virus DNA was detected in both cerebrospinal fluid (511 copies/mL) and in serum (828 copies/mL) during the early stage of disease, suggesting a role for this virus in pathogenesis.

Nosaka et al. (2011) conducted a case report in Acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD) (n=1). Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection was evaluated on Detection of EBV DNA in CSF and serum. Epstein-Barr virus DNA was detected in both cerebrospinal fluid and serum during the early stage of acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion in a 12-month-old female.
