Key result
Simultaneous use of a permanent pacemaker and a spinal cord stimulator caused intermittent pacemaker interference when the SCS output product exceeded 1.9-2 mVs.

Does simultaneous implantation of a spinal cord stimulator and a permanent pacemaker cause electromagnetic interference?
In patients requiring both a spinal cord stimulator and a pacemaker, multiprogrammable and/or bipolar pacemakers should be implanted to allow reprogramming and minimize the risk of inter-device interference.
Zucco et al. (1993) conducted a case report in Simultaneous implantation of a permanent pacemaker and a spinal cord stimulator (n=10). Simultaneous permanent pacemaker and spinal cord stimulator was evaluated on Inter-device interference. Simultaneous use of a permanent pacemaker and a spinal cord stimulator caused intermittent pacemaker interference when the SCS output product exceeded 1.9-2 mVs.
