Hydromagnetic flow of an incompressible viscous water based nanofluid over a stretching sheet with radiation effect is investigated. The radiation heat flux is described by the Rosseland diffusion approximation in the energy equation. The resulting non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations using scaling transformations. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved analytically using hyper geometric functions and numerically by Nachtsheim–Swigert shooting iteration technique together with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme for different nanoparticles. The influence of pertinent parameters such as magnetic parameter, solid volume fraction of nanoparticles, Prandtl number, radiation parameter, Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient are discussed.
