Automated guided-vehicle (AGV) systems are gaining increasing acceptance in modern manufacturing facilities primarily because of the versatility they offer. As the flexibility and complexity of these systems increase, the requirements of the design effort and the routeing and scheduling system grow. In this paper we provide a review of the literature relevant to the system design, routeing and scheduling, and justification and implementation of AGV systems.
