Supports right gastroepiploic artery grafting to the right coronary artery; extends arterial conduit options with 5-10 year patency data comparable to saphenous vein.
Systematic Review
Does the use of the gastroepiploic artery provide good graft patency in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting?
The right gastroepiploic artery demonstrates good long-term patency (comparable to the saphenous vein) when anastomosed to the right coronary artery, but performs poorly when anastomosed to the left anterior descending artery.
Malvindi et al. (2007) conducted a systematic review in Coronary artery disease requiring bypass grafting. Gastroepiploic artery vs. Saphenous vein was evaluated on Patency. The right gastroepiploic artery demonstrates 80-90% patency at 5 years and around 62% at 10 years when anastomosed to the right coronary artery, similar to the saphenous vein.
