MMP-9 1562T allele linked to ~137% greater ACS risk versus the CC genotype.
Why the study?
Does the MMP-9 1562C>T polymorphism increase the risk of acute coronary syndrome in the Vietnamese population?
Case-Control (n=206)
No
Does the MMP-9 1562C>T polymorphism increase the risk of acute coronary syndrome in the Vietnamese population?
Odds Ratio: 2.37 (95% CI 1.04–5.75)
p-value: p=0.045
The MMP-9 1562C>T polymorphism is significantly associated with increased susceptibility to acute coronary syndrome and higher serum MMP-9 levels in the Vietnamese population.

MMP-9 1562T allele was associated with ACS risk in Vietnamese; hypothesis-generating, needs prospective validation before clinical use.
Thảo et al. (2017) conducted a case-control in Acute coronary syndrome (n=206). MMP-9 1562T allele carrier status vs. MMP-9 CC genotype (non-carriers) was evaluated on Risk of developing acute coronary syndrome (OR 2.37, 95% CI 1.04-5.75, p=0.045). Carriers of the MMP-9 1562T allele had a significantly increased risk of developing acute coronary syndrome compared to individuals with the CC genotype (OR 2.37).
