An experimental study of the angular dependence of Auger electron emission from the (111) surface of a single crystal of copper has shown marked crystallographic effects. The equipment, a LEED/AES system incorporating an energy analyzing Faraday cup, is described. The results are discussed in terms of diffraction and inherent angular dependence in the Auger emission.
