Leadless pacemaker implantation causes right atrial appendage perforation managed with emergency sternotomy and VA-ECMO.
Why the study?
There are few reports of right atrial perforation during leadless pacemaker implantation.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report highlights right atrial appendage perforation as a rare but severe complication of leadless pacemaker implantation.
Warrants caution for right atrial appendage perforation during leadless pacemaker implantation; leaves open incidence and prevention in larger cohorts.

Date et al. (2021) conducted a case report in Complete atrioventricular block and exacerbated heart failure (n=1). Micra transcatheter pacing system (leadless pacemaker) was evaluated. Implantation of a leadless pacemaker in a 94-year-old woman resulted in perforation of the right atrial appendage, successfully managed with emergency median sternotomy and VA-ECMO.
