Alerts clinicians to monitor elderly men for conduction delay; leaves open whether block independently predicts outcomes beyond CHD and HF.
Cohort
Intraventricular block is common in the elderly, particularly men, and is strongly associated with cardiovascular comorbidities such as coronary heart disease and heart failure.
Kreger et al. (1989) conducted a cohort in Intraventricular block. Prolonged QRS interval was evaluated on Prevalence of intraventricular block. Complete intraventricular block (QRS ≥0.12 second) was observed in 11% of elderly men and 5% of elderly women, and was strongly associated with coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure.
