Hypothesis-generating for Mengo virus as a recombinant vaccine vector; human translation requires further studies.
Attenuated Mengo virus can serve as an effective live recombinant vaccine vector to induce protective cellular immune responses.
Altmeyer et al. (1995) studied Lethal LCMV infection. Attenuated Mengo virus recombinant (vLCMG4) was evaluated on Protective immunity against lethal LCMV infection and induction of LCMV-specific CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocyte response. A single, low-dose immunization with the attenuated Mengo virus recombinant vLCMG4 induced protective immunity against lethal LCMV infection and elicited an LCMV-specific CD8+ T cell response in mice.
