Depression in PD patients shows no nutritional or inflammatory effects; observational data leaves open whether screening or treatment alters outcomes.
Observational (n=60)
Does antidepressant treatment improve nutritional status and inflammatory markers in peritoneal dialysis patients with depression?
Depression is common in peritoneal dialysis patients but its treatment with antidepressants does not appear to improve nutritional status or reduce inflammation.
Cilan et al. (2012) conducted an observational in Peritoneal dialysis and depression (n=60). Depression vs. Nondepressive patients was evaluated on Nutritional status and inflammatory markers (hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6). Depression affected 25% (10 of 40) of peritoneal dialysis patients and showed no significant association with nutritional status or inflammatory markers compared to nondepressive patients.
