Does higher physical activity reduce the risk of first nonfatal myocardial infarction?
Relative Risk: 0.5 (95% CI 0.31–0.8)
Physical activity is inversely related to the risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction, independent of other coronary heart disease risk factors.
Hennekens et al. (1995) conducted a case-control in Myocardial infarction (n=680). Highest quartile of physical activity vs. Lowest quartile of physical activity was evaluated on Myocardial infarction (RR 0.50, 95% CI 0.31-0.80). The highest quartile of physical activity was associated with a reduced relative risk of myocardial infarction in men (RR 0.50; 95% CI 0.31-0.80), but not in women (RR 1.00; 95% CI 0.41-2.43).
