Key result
Additional left AV valve anomalies predict postoperative residual pathology with an AUC of ~0.78.
Why the study?
Postoperative left atrioventricular valve regurgitation remains an unresolved problem in 3–13% of patients after complete atrioventricular canal repair.
Does transthoracic echocardiography accurately detect additional anomalies of the left AV valve that predict postoperative residual pathology in patients with complete atrioventricular communication?
Observational (n=229)
No
Does transthoracic echocardiography accurately detect additional anomalies of the left AV valve that predict postoperative residual pathology in patients with complete atrioventricular communication?
Transthoracic echocardiography effectively identifies additional left AV valve anomalies in patients with complete atrioventricular communication, which are significant predictors of postoperative residual pathology.

L. A. Shapoval (2019) conducted an observational in Complete atrioventricular communication (n=229). Additional anomalies of the left atrioventricular valve vs. Typical morphology of the common AV valve was evaluated on Residual pathology of the left AV valve after correction (AUC 0.778, 95% CI 0.598-0.849). The presence of additional anomalies of the left AV valve significantly predicted the occurrence of postoperative residual pathology, with an area under the curve of 0.778.
