Validates rat right ventricle strips for studying cardiac noradrenergic transmission; leaves open clinical translation pending human data.
The rat right ventricle strip preparation is a useful model for examining the effects of drugs on noradrenergic transmission in the heart, provided time controls are used.
Doggrell et al. (1981) studied this question. Field stimulation and pharmacological agents vs. Time controls / absence of other stimuli was evaluated on Contractile responses to field stimulation and (-)-isoprenaline. In rat right ventricle strips, responses to field stimulation at 5 Hz were inhibited by tetrodotoxin and guanethidine, demonstrating activation of noradrenergic nerves acting at postsynaptic beta-adrenoreceptors.
