Key result
Concomitant valve surgery and Cox Maze IV restores sinus rhythm in ~77% of patients at discharge.
Why the study?
The authors sought to analyze immediate outcomes of correcting acquired heart defects concomitantly with the Cox Maze IV rhythm-converting procedure.
Cohort (n=49)
The Cox Maze IV procedure performed concomitantly with heart valve surgery is effective for restoring sinus rhythm with low early mortality and complications.
Small series suggests acceptable immediate outcomes with concomitant Cox-Maze IV; leaves open efficacy, safety, and need for randomized trials.
