Hypothesis-generating for hypothalamic ACE in Goldblatt hypertension; leaves open relevance to human renovascular disease.
Does experimental Goldblatt hypertension alter brain angiotensin-converting enzyme activity in rats?
p-value: p=<0.01
Increased ACE activity in the hypothalamus of one-clip, two-kidney Goldblatt hypertensive rats suggests a central role for brain ACE in this hypertension model.
Mizuno et al. (1981) studied Experimental hypertension (n=26). 1-clip, 2-kidney Goldblatt hypertension induction vs. Normotensive control rats was evaluated on Brain Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) activity in the hypothalamus (p=<0.01). In 1-clip, 2-kidney Goldblatt hypertensive rats, ACE activity in the hypothalamus was significantly higher (5.7 ± 1.0 units) compared to normotensive control rats (p<0.01).
