ANP may reflexively activate renin in anuric hemodialysis; leaves open net hormonal impact on volume control.
Does synthetic atrial natriuretic peptide alter hemodynamic and hormonal responses in anuric subjects on regular hemodialysis?
p-value: p=<0.05
In anuric hemodialysis patients, synthetic ANP reduces blood pressure and directly decreases plasma aldosterone and cortisol while reflexively activating the sympathetic nervous system.
Nakajima et al. (1988) studied anuric subjects receiving regular hemodialysis (n=6). synthetic atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) vs. Basal levels was evaluated on plasma renin activity (p=<0.05). Synthetic atrial natriuretic peptide increased plasma renin activity from 2.49 to 3.39 nmol/L/h predialysis and from 2.78 to 3.15 nmol/L/h postdialysis (P<0.05) in hemodialysis patients.
