Key result
Healthy Moroccans show ~77% ACE D allele frequency with no Factor V Leiden mutations detected.
Why the study?
The influence of genetic risk factors on cardiovascular diseases involves multiple pathways, but their frequencies in the Moroccan population were not well characterized.
Population
182 healthy Moroccan subjects
Comparison
Frequencies of five genetic polymorphisms
Design

Establishes polymorphism frequencies in healthy Moroccans; leaves open their value as cardiovascular markers pending prospective validation.
Cross-Sectional (n=182)
The prevalence of cardiovascular-related genetic polymorphisms in the Moroccan population shows unique variability influenced by European and African populations, which may inform future clinical studies on CVD predisposition.
They-They et al. (2010) conducted a cross-sectional in Healthy (n=182). Genetic polymorphisms (ACE, MTHFR, APOE, FII, FVL) was evaluated on Allele frequencies of five genetic polymorphisms. In 182 healthy Moroccan subjects, allele frequencies were 76.6% for ACE D, 26.9% for MTHFR T, and 2.7% for FII A, with no Factor V Leiden mutations detected.
