Documents poor outcome despite prenatal diagnosis and transfusion in congenital Chagas; leaves open optimal fetal management strategies.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report demonstrates that congenital Chagas' disease can be diagnosed prenatally via cordocentesis and can lead to severe fetal complications including hydrops and myocarditis.
Okumura et al. (2004) conducted a case report in Congenital Chagas' disease (n=1). In utero exchange transfusion was evaluated on Fetal outcome. Prenatal diagnosis of congenital Chagas' disease was confirmed via fetal buffy coat, but despite in utero exchange transfusion for anemia, fetal demise ensued.
