Key result
Early-onset CHD in a son is linked to ~11-fold higher CHD death risk in fathers.
Why the study?
The study aimed to determine whether coronary heart disease aggregates among brothers and parent-son groups using direct data from relatives of cases and controls.

Does coronary heart disease aggregate among brothers and parent-son groups?
Relative Risk: 11.3
Coronary heart disease strongly aggregates in father-son pairs and male siblings when the index case has early-onset CHD, but not in mother-son pairs.
Phillips et al. (1974) conducted a case-control in Coronary heart disease (n=528). Having a son or brother with early onset CHD vs. Having a son or brother without CHD was evaluated on CHD death (RR 11.3). Having a son with early onset coronary heart disease was associated with an 11.3-fold increased risk of CHD death in fathers, and a 2.5-fold increased risk of developing CHD in male siblings.
